The future of our children, right from their early age till old age, is not something any mother should joke with. When our children have peace in all areas of their lives, and settled in life according to God’s will, we also will have peace. God has made us ‘caretakers’ over their lives, He has brought them into our lives for such a time like this, and we must not fail God in fulfilling our responsibility over them, especially by interceding daily for these precious gifts.
The area of marriage is one we must not fail to table before God regularly for our children. If Christ tarries, no matter how young they are now, they will someday get married. But it is not enough to get married; it is IMPORTANT that they get married to a person after God’s own heart, one who loves Jesus passionately, and encourages them to love Jesus, one who has their best interest at heart, and not jut a ‘church goer’. The spouses of our children will have a tremendous impact on their faith, their happiness, many significant choices they will make every day, and even for eternity. Therefore, we cannot afford to toil with this aspect of their lives.
The world today portrays a false representation of Christian marriages, and it is saddening to see a lot of young ones fall into errors, as the rate of divorce is also at an increasing rate. Though we can not make the choice of a life partner for a children, but we can stand in the gap like Esther did for her people and intercede for their ‘deliverance and safety’ from the corrupt practices of the evil men and women in the world today. Our prayers can make God lead them into His will, just like the prayers of Esther made God arise for the deliverance of her people.
Prayers
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
My Heavenly Father, I thank You for blessing me with these great gifts (mention the names of your children). I know before You gave them to me, You already prepared a GLORIOUS future for them, which includes the area of making the right choice of a spouse after Your heart. Thank You Jesus for You precisely know the God-fearing man or woman for these children. Thank You because You are also willing to guide them into Your path. Lord, I am grateful.
2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
My Heavenly Father, I plead with You, guide the steps of my children to the God-fearing man/woman you have prepared for them. Plant in them a desire to do nothing less than Your will in marriage (and other areas). Help them to be interested in what interests you, so they will not fall into error. No matter the pressure they face, impress upon their hearts that which is Your will alone, and help them to obey You in Jesus name, Amen.
Isaiah 30:21 Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
My Heavenly Father, please silence every inordinate desire that the devil may want to plant in the hearts of my children to lead them astray, and amplify Your Voice in their ears, and hearts. Teach them the right way to go in making the right choice in marriage. Speak to me too on this aspect of their lives and help me to cooperate with Your will for their lives. Help me never to act out of flesh, nor let my desires override Your will. No matter what my desires are, help me to ALWAYS submit to Your will for their lives in marriage, because You own them, and know what is best for them.
Matthew 22:37 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
My Heavenly Father, I humbly plead that You give my children spouses who will not only love You for a moment, but for a lifetime. Give them spouses who absolutely loves God with all their heart wants to please the Lord in their marriage, with a goal of making Heaven. I pray that the love of God will be deeply rooted in their hearts and will keep them together in the face of the storms of life. Help them to serve You together with their children, not looking back in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Isaiah 42:16b I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.
My Heavenly Father, every battle waiting at whatever stage of my children’s lives, to cripple them or limit them and their spouses; Lord, I ask that You go ahead of them and clear those ‘battles/mountains’ on their way. Please, grant them the courage and power to overcome whatever the devil may throw at them.At every stage and every minute of their lives, help them to be MORE THAN CONQUERORS. By Your mighty Hand, lead them into the glorious future You have prepared for them with their spouses and children in Jesus name, Amen.
Reflection & Action
Now imagine if Esther had remained silent. Praying is one of the best ways to influence wise and godly choices in this crucial decision. It is never too late nor too early to petition God on your child’s behalf, in all areas of life, but ESPECIALLY in the choice of a spouse. How sad and heart-breaking will it be ON THE LAST DAY if one does not receive a commendation from God for diligently carrying out one’s responsibilities as ‘caretakers’ over the precious destines He has put in their care. ALL we need to parent our children, and stand in the gap for them, God has provided; so, we have NO EXCUSE to be careless over their lives.
Mothers, and Mothers in waiting: Get on your knees and pray! Marriage is the one covenant that is binding until death, so it is necessary to begin our intercessory prayer for our children now! Never underestimate the power of a praying mother that can reach far into the future generations. Resist the urge towards laziness and plan to set aside a certain time of the week to intercede for your children’s future spouses. If you do not, who will?
